Overview
Measslainte is an information site. We collect as little as technically possible, we do not sell visitor data, and we do not share visitor data with third parties for marketing. This page explains, in plain language, what little we do process and why.
By using the site you accept the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
What We Collect
Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and origin server log standard request data: IP address (truncated), user agent, referring URL, timestamp, and the page requested. These logs are used only for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate traffic analytics. They are not linked to your name, email, or any other identifier.
Analytics. We run privacy-respecting analytics that report aggregate, anonymised metrics (page views, country-level geography, referrer). We do not use cross-site tracking, we do not set advertising cookies, and we do not build individual visitor profiles.
Comments and contact. If you contact us by email or social media, we keep that correspondence for as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. We never publish private correspondence without your explicit consent.
What we do NOT collect. We do not run a newsletter, we do not require accounts, we do not process payments, and we do not collect health or medical information about visitors. There is no comment system wired to third-party tracking.
Cookies and Local Storage
The site sets minimal first-party storage required for core features:
- A dark-mode preference, stored locally in your browser so the site remembers your choice across visits.
- Service-worker cache, so recently read pages load offline. This cache lives on your device and is never transmitted to us.
We do not set advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party social embeds that fingerprint visitors.
Third-Party Services
The following third parties may process limited data when you interact with the site:
- Cloudflare. CDN, DNS, and security. Cloudflare may process your IP address and request headers to deliver pages and block abuse. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Font providers (Google Fonts). If your browser loads web fonts, the font provider may see your IP address and requested URL. This is standard for any site using hosted web fonts.
- Archive.org and external scholarly databases. Linked references open in new tabs. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
We do not embed Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, advertising networks, or any tracker that builds a cross-site profile of you.
Children's Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. The content discusses health topics and is written for an adult audience capable of evaluating evidence.
Affiliate and Sponsorship Disclosure
We do not currently run affiliate links, sponsored content, or paid placements. If that ever changes, this page will be updated and any compensated material will be clearly disclosed on the page itself, in line with relevant consumer-protection rules (including FTC guidance and EU consumer law).
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar), you may have rights to:
- Request access to data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion.
- Object to processing.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Because we do not maintain user accounts or build personal profiles, in practice there is very little personal data tied to you. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Data Retention
Server logs are rotated on the hosting provider's standard schedule. We do not keep indefinite histories of IP addresses. Analytics data is aggregate and not linkable to individuals.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and revise this page. Material changes will be noted on the site's start page or about page.
Contact
Questions about this policy can be sent to the site operator via the contact details listed on the About page, or via the social account linked in the footer.
